The International Advisory Board of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee 2011-2013

The HAC approved the nominations for the membership of the 2011-2013 term of its International Advisory Board at its plenary meeting on 3 December 2010 under resolution 2010/10/X3.

 Government Decree 69/2006. (III. 28.) on the Hungarian Accreditation Committee states that

„3. § (3) The HAC may set up standing and expert committees and advisory boards to facilitate execution of its tasks and, in accordance with the Higher Education Act 111. § (3)-(4), may employ the services of national and international experts.”

The task of the Board is to assist the HAC in its work, and to provide advice in its internal and external quality evaluations, especially with regard to international good practice. In addition, the Board may recommend international experts, foreign visiting team members and external evaluators.

The members of the Board are

Stanislaw Chwirot, Poland, Professor of physics and former Vice-Rector of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruñ, former chair of the University Accreditation Commission of Poland.

Karl Dittrich, The Netherlands, political scientist, chairman of the Netherlands-Flemish agency NVAO, member of the ENQA Board and vice-chairperson of the European Consortium for Accreditation (ECA), former president of the University of Maastricht.

Nick Harris, UK, biologist, former Deputy Director for Academic Infrastructure, Quality Assurance Agency UK, involved in numerous international projects related to quality assurance in higher education.

Jasmina Havranek, Croatia, Director of the Agency for Science and Higher Education, Professor and former Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of Zagreb University, member of the Steering Committee of the CEE Network.

Jürgen Kohler, GERMANY, Professor of law and between 1994 and 2000 Rector of the University of Greifswald, Germany, 2005-2007 chairman of the German Accreditation Council, member of accreditation boards of FIBAA and ZEvA, evaluation team chair of the EUA Institutional Evaluation Programme and former member of its Steering Board.

Helmuth Konrad, Austria, Professor of History, 1993 to 1997 Rector of the University of Graz and from 2000 to 2005 President of the Austrian Accreditation Council, former member of the ENQA Board and the Steering Committee of the CEE Network

Christian Thune, Denmark, political scientist, vice-chairman of the Accreditation Council for Higher Education (ACE), former Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Law and Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, former Director of the new Centre for Quality Assurance and Evaluation of Higher Education and from 2000-2005 president of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).

 

The 2011 meeting of the International Advisory Board was held on October 28-29. The focus this year, in addition to a review of the HAC's work, was the draft higher education law and the status of the HAC as an independent body of experts. The Board's Recommendations are available here.

 

The Board held its annual meeting in Budapest at the HAC offices on October 29-30, 2010. Based on the documents sent to the Board in advance and the discussions at the meeting, the Board formulated its Recommendations.

The Board held its 2008 meeting at the HAC offices on 23-24 November. It reviewed the HAC’s work in the past year and reflected on its external evaluation and Action Plan.

The Board held its 2006 meeting on May 30-31, 2006 at Debrecen University. The University had just concluded its external evaluation by the HAC and the Board met with members of the evaluation team and with evaluated university participants to learn about their experiences in the evaluation process. The annual meeting of the International Advisory Board of HAC took place on May 17. 2003. The negotiations thematically followed the topics highlighted in the annual report of HAC. As a conclusion of the meeting, the Board published its recommendations.
