International Advisory Board

At its plenary meeting on 9 December 2016 the HAC elected the new members of its International Advisory Board. The task of the Board is to follow the work of the HAC and to provide advice, especially at its annual meetings where, based on the HAC’s annual report and other documents, the Board issues its Recommendations. The HAC may also ask the Board on occasion to recommend experts for its external evaluations.

 

The members of the Board are

  • Dhurata Bozo, Albania, biotechnology. Director of the accreditation agency APAAL, former member of the Board of CEENQA.
  • Tove Bull, Norway, linguistics. Former rector of Tromsø University, former member of the Steering Committee of the European University Association Institutional Evaluation Program (EUA IEP). Professor Bull was a member of the review panel of the HAC for ENQA membership in 2008.
  • Peter Findlay, United Kingdom, German Studies. Former professor at Portsmouth University, and later deputy director for the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). Current functions include membership in the German Wissenschaftsrat, the Board of AQ Austria, and the British Accreditation Council.
  • Achim Hopbach, Austria, history. Managing director of the Austrian Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, previously managing director of the German Accreditation Council, from 2009 to 2013 president of ENQA. (On the HAC Advisory Board since 2014).
  • Lieudvika Leisyte, Germany, public policy. Professor at Dortmund University’s Center for Higher Education, previously researcher at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at Twente University, The Netherlands. (On the HAC Advisory Board since 2014).
  • Lucka Lorber, Slovenia, geography. Vice-Rector for Quality Development at Maribor University, an external expert evaluator of the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Slovenia (NAKVIS) and in the pool of experts of EUA IEP.
  • Mieczyslav Socha, Poland, economics. Professor at the University of Warsaw and former vice-president of the Polish accreditation commission PKA. Former Board member of INQAAHE and CEENQA.

 

 

Recommendations of the International Advisory Board

 

ntt 2016The annual meeting of the International Advisory Board of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee took place on 28-29 October 2016. The Friday afternoon meeting, where several HAC members participated, was devoted to the discussion of strategic issues. The Saturday morning session focused on the work of the HAC in the past year, with the participation of former President Ervin Balázs.

During the dinner with the Board and HAC members, President Csépe thanked the Board members, and especially the outgoing ones, for their dedicated work and expert advice over their past terms. The Board's recommendations are available here.

 

The International Advisory Board of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee meets annually with the assignment to review the work of the HAC in the preceding year as well as to discuss and comment on topical issues relating to the HAC. The 2015 meeting took place on 30 and 31 October. On Friday afternoon, members of the HAC and the Hungarian Advisory Board of the HAC participated to discuss the strategic options available to the HAC after having completed its 3rd cycle of institutional accreditation. The International Advisory Board of the HAC sat for its annual meeting at the HAC offices on 31 October-1 November 2014. In the Friday session, held after the HAC plenary meeting, seven HAC members, Gábor Szabó representing the Hungarian Rectors' Conference, and Gergely Bohátka representing the Ministry of Human Resources, attended.  HAC President Ervin Balázs informed the Board about legislative changes that are hoped to pave the way for the HAC's renewal of ENQA membership. The International Advisory Board of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee held its annual meeting in Budapest at the HAC offices on 25-26 October 2013. Several HAC members and members of the Hungarian Advisory Board of external stakeholders also attended the first day of the meeting. The HAC’s International Advisory Board held its annual meeting in Budapest on 26-27 October 2012. Nine HAC members attended the first day meeting having an intensive discussion with Board members. HAC President Ervin Balázs informed the Board about the composition and tasks of the new HAC in office since March this year. The Board discussed the HAC report on 2011/12 activities, and issues related to the coming external evaluation of HAC. The Board’s recommendations can be read here

 

The 2011 meeting of the International Advisory Board was held on October 28-29. The focus this year, in addition to a review of the HAC's work, was the draft higher education law and the status of the HAC as an independent body of experts. The Board's Recommendations are available here.

The Board held its 2008 meeting at the HAC offices on 23-24 November. It reviewed the HAC's work in the past year and reflected on its external evaluation and Action Plan.

The Board held its 2006 meeting on May 30-31, 2006 at Debrecen University. The University had just concluded its external evaluation by the HAC and the Board met with members of the evaluation team and with evaluated university participants to learn about their experiences in the evaluation process. The annual meeting of the International Advisory Board of HAC took place on May 17. 2003. The negotiations thematically followed the topics highlighted in the annual report of HAC. As a conclusion of the meeting, the Board published its recommendations.
