European Quality Assurance Forum in Budapest

The Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB) acted as a key professional stakeholder and co-organiser in Europe’s most prominent higher education quality assurance event, the European Quality Assurance Forum (EQAF), hosted in Budapest by Corvinus University of Budapest. The 2025 EQAF Forum focused on the themes of stability, autonomy, international cooperation, and student-centered approach, the Forum provided a comprehensive platform for professional dialogue on the future of European higher education.  

This year’s EQAF was implemented by the professional coordination of  the European University Association (EUA), the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) the European Student’s Union (ESU) and European Association for the Applied Sciences in Higher Education (EURASHE) The event welcomed higher education leaders, quality assurance professionals, researchers, academics, and student representatives from over 40 countries with more than 400 participants 

Followint the  Forum’s motto QA in times of crises the speakers and participants together tried to explore how quality assurance can effectively support higher education systems in times of crisis, with particular attention to sustainability, institutional autonomy, and international cooperation.

Prof. Dr. János Ede Szilágyi, President, Prof. Dr. Valéria Csépe, Honorary President, and Dr. Péter Levente Lakatos, Director-General represented the MAB on this special occasion. 

MAB’s president delivered a welcoming address in which he emphasized the importance of the adaptability of higher education systems and the renewing role of quality assurance. 

Upon the honourable invitation of the European Student’s Union (ESU), the MAB’s Director-General also participated in the pre-conference “Student-Led Solutions: QA in Uncertain Futures,” held ahead of the main EQAF program. In his keynote, “How QA Should Be Managed During Uncertain Futures,” Dr. Péter Levente Lakatos outlined the significance of flexibility and adaptability in QA systems. He then joined a panel discussion with students and international experts, examining different/possible ways to enhance student involvement in decision-making, explore possible QA solutions for uncertainty management, and promote alignment of European quality assurance systems.

On 12 November, the annual meeting of the Visegrád Four Quality Assurance agencies (V4QAF) took place, building on the collaboration launched in 2021 to unite the Czech NAB, the Hungarian MAB, the Polish PKA and the Slovak SAAVS in strengthening regional cooperation and sharing expertise in higher education quality assurance.
