The Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB) is participating in EQUAL-DOC, a project led by the Spanish quality assurance agency AQU Catalunya. The project was selected for funding under the Erasmus+ European Degree Pathway call for proposals.
The project will test and further develop the European framework for awarding the European Degree Label (EDL), with a particular focus on joint doctoral programmes. As part of this work, the consortium will conduct external quality assurance evaluations of joint bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes and analyse the experience gained in different legal and institutional contexts.
In July 2026, AQU Catalunya became the first quality assurance agency in Europe to award the EDL, granting it to the CHARM-EU European University Alliance. Within EQUAL-DOC, MAB is a member of the consortium led by AQU Catalunya and contributes to the development of evaluation procedures and methodological tools related to the EDL. The consortium also includes four other European bodies responsible for quality assurance and evaluation in higher education: the Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programmes (AQAS) in Germany; the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC), an independent unit of the Finnish National Agency for Education (OPH); the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) in Lithuania; and Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). The project aims to make quality assurance for joint European programmes more consistent and transparent.
MAB will also join the CHARM-EU-DEGREE project as an associated partner following the project’s selection for funding. The CHARM European University initiative supports the development of additional joint programmes and helps prepare them to meet the EDL requirements. The project also includes Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), its Hungarian university partner and one of the alliance’s founding members.
